Welcome to your favorite veterinarian clinic’s newsletter! This month, we are focusing on all things summer! Ever wondered about International travel with your pet? We have tips, education, and a few things to add to your Amazon shipping cart!

We’re excited you’re here to learn with us!

Case of the Month

Don’t delay on planning your pet’s international pet travel. Starting August 1st, the rules for entering the United States with your pets from other countries is changing. We recently saw a family who travels to Canada in the summer to escape the heat. In the past they have only needed a rabies certificate to travel across the border into Canada and back to the US. This year, the requirements are different. The forms that are required for travel into the US are not available to veterinarians until July 15th but these pets will need to have received rabies vaccines from a veterinarian in a practice with a USDA Accredited veterinarian. (Don’t worry, Dr. Bailey is accredited so any rabies administered at either practice will be fine). The doctor that administers the vaccine and Dr. Bailey will have to sign the form. It is also important that a microchip was implanted prior to the rabies vaccine. These clients will be traveling in August so we will have time to get the form and make sure they have everything they need to safely and quickly enter back into the United States at the end of their trip. If you are traveling with your pet this summer, talk to your veterinarian about how these changes may affect you. Here is also a link with more information- https://www.aphis.usda.gov/pet-travel

Medication of the Month

We have arrived at a triggering week for your canine babies! In a few days, fireworks will fill our area and as us humans are celebrating America’s Birthday, our dogs might be overwhelmed with fear and anxiety due to the sounds from our celebration. Even after our holiday festivities end, it’s thunderstorm season. When a dog experiences noise aversion, their symptoms can include running away/escaping from your house and yard, destroying parts of your house, or injuring themselves. So what are we going to do to help our dogs experience more comfort this month?

Your answer is SILEO, the first FDA approved treatment for dogs with noise aversion. This oral gel treatment is given between the cheek and gum when needed at home! Your dog will experience a calming sensation that is not sedative. If you suspect that your dog has noise aversion, give us a call to schedule your appointment to start your dog’s journey to zen!
